We found this little guy hopping around our driveway last weekend. We were gonna put it back in the nest but the nest is WAY out of our reach in the highest part of the tree. Since there are neighborhood cats that regularly patrol the area, I decided to take in the little bird.

As you can see, it really likes crushed crickets and it also really, really likes meal worms, chopped up nightcrawlers, and dog food mash. Quite a black hole it has for a stomach! {D

After a nice big meal, it's time to sleep :D

I tried to keep a wild bird once as a kid. You might want to do a little reasearch and find out if those need grit for digestion. Some and in fact most birds I think need some to grind up thier food. If they dont get it they will end up dying.

This little guy or girl is a starling. Since they don't eat seed it won't be needing any grit for digestion. The vet gave me some high protein canned food to feed it and told me to give it as many insects as I could find (just for variety). It seems to be doing well and has even gotten used to me. It expects to be fed every time it sees me and even hops towards me now. :p
I plan to keep it until it's able to catch crickets on it's own and fly a bit. Then it's going back to the wild, probly at a nearby lake park or something like that.

Be careful not to underestimate the amount of food it needs! We had a couple baby starlings too. Under the down/feathers you can feel how much weight they have on them. They have to eat every couple of hours or you can actually starve them very easily!
Ours were so trained that when they were hopping around and testing their wings, they would follow us around the house hoping for food. Whoever feeds them is momma!
