found a baby box turtle ?

:? hey my daughter found a small box turtle today about the size of a half dollar its eyes are shut but not swollen could it be a hatchling ? do they keep their eyes shut after they hatch for a couple of hours ?already tried googling it not much luck thanks cheyenne

Can you post some pics? Their eyes are open pretty much the moment they hatch, but light, irritation, fear...may all be a factor. Care is very important at this point, as mortality in baby boxies is a big issue. I would also check state laws, as removing box turtles from the wild is very illegal in some states.
