Hi all,

A friend of mine is interested in getting some sort of gecko, hasn't decided yet, but he wanted to know if I had any recommendations on herp forums he could peruse to gather more info. I did some light googling and didn't really find anything akin to the wide wealth of info we have here on AB in regards to inverts. I looked at OurReptileForum and reptileforumsuk and those seemed pretty ok but I was just surprised that there weren't tons and tons of others since reptile keeping is a lot more "mainstream" so to speak than invert keeping. Am I missing anything or would either of those be a good place to send my friend?

To my knowledge there isn't one. .. We're blessed to have AB. I'm not aware of anything right equivalent to it for reptiles.

Unfortunately, the evolution of facebook groups has largely killed forums. I would recommend he tries some gecko facebook groups. There's a lot of inexperienced people that try to get in their 2 cents, but usually the correct information gets out, and you can identify who the experienced keepers are.

@viper69 has a couple I think

Pangea used to have a forum section for a variety of geckos.

I agree with others in that Facebook killed off a lot of the forums from back in the day. To a certain degree some coral/fish forums but some are still going strong. I used to frequent Pangea and it looks like they are still going strong: https://www.pangeareptile.com/forums/

I know the faunaclassifieds also has some subforums you can also try.

What type of geckos is your friend interested in? I know you said he has not made up his mind but any particular species of interest being narrowed? I have always been fond of Crested Geckos and bred a few selective morphs (mostly creamsicle and Red/Cream).

I'm apart of the advancing herpetological husbandry group on Facebook. They have great up to date advice on reptile care, you could also try joining the reptile lighting group.

Thanks for all the replies you lot. I'm going to show this thread to my friend. @Kichimark he is most interested in crested geckos at the moment but who knows what he'll settle on.
