format of pics...??

hey quick question about the pics that everyone posts...ive been trying to figure out what format you all use to post those big pics for some reason i always have to cut mine down to like half the sze and the pic does not look as good as it should..any tips on a program or a certain format to use???

I use Microsoft Picture It! and it works wonderfully. That is mainly when I want to crop / adjust brightness / etc.

To change the image size, if I'm posting online, I just use photobucket.com to upload my images and then use their reducing tool to change the image size. That way, even if you've already posted your picture and then find out it's too big, you just have to reduce at photobucket and the photo will downsize.

There's also a free program called xnview that you can download and use to change the size.

I use Adobe Photoshop elements myself, sicne it came with my scanner.
