Hoya hoya ^^; Gomen for such a wierd topic....Or subject. But anyway....I fed my Tarantula (Chilean Rose Hair) a Medium sized cricket (They looked big to me....) For the first time (Usually feed him smalls, but those were TOO small x_X) And It took like an hour for him to eat it o_o; When he first caught it he went under the shadeing of a tree i put in his cage and started walking around in a circle makeing a web underneath him, and then he just sat there....After a couple of minutes he spit the cricket out, turned around, and started to either web it or do something else with it....er...Hehe, Well Then after that he turned back around, put it back in his mouth, and then slowly started to eat it...after an hour later he finally swallowed it o_o; Anyway, my question is, Why did he make that webbing underneath him, and What (Just incase it WASNT Web) and Why He did that web(or whatever) Over the cricket, then ate him back up?...o_o; Hopefully ya' understand ^^; Thankyou!!

My B. Boehmei does this every time he eats, He'll grab the cricket, then when it's dead he'll drop it and web it a little bit, then he'll pick it up agian and start to eat it, my B vagans does this to. But I don't know why they doe this, but it doesn't affect them so I just let do what they do.

I think thats what it is, because every time I feed my B. Boehmei I feed him two crickets at a time and he'll only drop one, so that's my guess.

Never seen this before, but my guess is that for larger food, the spider protects his dead prey from other predators with the web? My a.versicolor will kill a cricket, nibble and then strap him to cork bark or wall for later, if that's what you mean.

A few of my tarantulas do this. I have just watched my Ceratogyrus bechanicus (sp?) do this. It actually killed the prey, wrapped it up in a ball of web and then built a kind of a thin "web-tent" around itself so that nothing could get to it while it was eating. My theory for the wrapping up of the food is so that it tucks the cricket's legs in, making it a bit easier to eat.:)

They all do it.
Its putting down web so it can drop the T in it, and wrap it up in the webbing. The web holds the cric. together as it turns to liquid , so the T can slurp it up. Otherwise the cric. couldn't be consumed... Then when the T's done sucking it dry, all thats left is a little spitball. Look in the corners of its cage and you'll see them....

This is from a thread posted yesterday.
