I am getting my first ivory millipedes today. I set up their substrate after researching many recipes. For decoration on the top I put flukers all natural green sphagnum moss, which is designed for frogs and dried magnolia leaves.

Because its all natural, I assumed it wasn't dyed. Also, frogs are very sensitive to chemicals so I figured it would be fine. Now that I am about to pick them up, I am concerned I need to redo the encolsure.

I went to flukers website and they said it is dyed, but with an all natural dye that is safe for consumption. Should I be worried?

Try to get the exact dye. I think that some are dried with heat which keeps the color. I’m assuming it probably isn’t safe though. I always go with pillow moss, locally collected moss, or normal no chemical garden sphagnum moss.

I would not use it to be safe. The millipedes will most likely eat the moss, they love the stuff. I would try to find some brown or dark green moss. Not as pretty but most likely not dyed.

Do you have reptiles like tortoises or snakes? That stuff is perfect for nesting or humid hides.
