Okay i just saw a millipede the other day and was fascinated. i would like the scientific names of millipede and centipede species in florida if anyone can tell me. i would like to do more net searching but i need the names so i can further my research. the internet gives very little info on species that you can find mostly just info on how to kill them. i would like to keep them but because of the florida arthropod rule i cant have any non native species. any info will be appreciated. thanks guys and gals

I'm not sure of the specifics on that law....but I am pretty sure you can keep lot's of non natives.heh Look at Glades Herp, etc.

The species I am aware of in florida are:
Millipedes:
Chicobolus spinigerus
Floridobolus penneri
Narceus americanus
Anadenobolus monilicornis - introduced
Centipedes:
Hemiscolopendra marginata

Yeah they are pretty cool, "Florida Ivories". Chicobolus spinigerus and Narceus americanus are both pretty nice also.

Florida does have a non-native inverts rule, although tarantulas are excepted. Others require a permit however. This is mentioned on Glades price list. I don't think the permit is too hard to get, however.
