I was transferring my 1in P. irminia sling into a bigger enclosure last night when it decided to make a run for it. I should have been a little more careful, because before I knew it, it was out, across my desk, leapt unto my hand, then to my lap (thankfully I was sitting "Indian" style) and up my pant leg:eek:. I pressed my jeans tight against my leg so it couldn't get past my calf, and slowly moved my hand down to get it to back out into a waiting container.
Whew! It could have gone a lot worse than it did, and I'm actually VERY thankful that it went up my pant leg, otherwise I might never have found it, and my cats might have made a quick snack of her/him.
All is well now, and its already started construction in its new home. ;)

So, how does it feel to have a tarantula in your pants...........;) I haven't had the pleasure.

I am glad the situation turned out well and i bet you probably won't underestimate it again. :D They can be quick as lightning, luckily none of ours have chosen to be fast outside their enclosures.:D

Lol great story. I haven't had an escape attempt yet, but I have 2 slings now each less than an inch long so i'm betting that its bound to happen sometime in the future lol.

I don't think there's a reason to be scared, just mindful. Use common sense and be on your toes in any situation like rehousing.

And good save mate. Very entertaining story. Would have been more entertaining had it got up your hosery. Haha.

The P. irminia was the first tarantula I encountered who teleported out of my control the first time I tried to rehouse it. Not once, but twice, in one day. They are wily, wily creatures. The only genus which has given me that many heart palpitations is Ephebopus.

So glad you got it! One of my P.cambridgei made a break for it, went into a crack and was never seen again.

Haven't had a tarantula in my pants, but a funnel weaver got into my bra.
Ironically male. {D{D{D
