So for the past two days, one of my A. versicolor slings (surprise, surprise!) hasn't been doing well. He wasn't walking well, not twitching but more like he couldn't get a few of his legs straightened (probably not getting enough hydrolic pressure) Put him an ICU with a warmed, moist paper towel and kept him near the heat pad I use for aches but this morning he passed away.

The other avic sling is doing fine. Took pinheads today. Went from 10 to 7 from escapes/death. This is the main reason why I didn't just buy one sling..

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm picking up an A. versi tomorrow and I'm really nervous. :(

Yeah, that's the plan for his remaining sibling. Also going to be melting more holes just above the sub to make sure he has more ventilation. Just have to be more careful. Had another one manage to get out of one of the larger holes. :wall:

Sucks Zerg, versi's really do seem touchy. You're right, more ventilation might be whats needed. As for the escapees, could the conditions of the room support them for a while so there's hope of finding them?

I bought 3 avics to be on the safe. Lost two of them in one go (1 death curl and 1 hanging from vent screen by one leg...) and then the last one randomly deathcurled 2 months later.

I bought ONE more avic and I'm keeping her in a cube that may as well just be MADE of screen, it has so much ventilation, haha.

Sorry to hear, Danielle. :( Avics can be such a mixed bag sometimes. Every time my versi goes into pre-molt, it seems as if five people lose their Avics to SADS. I spend the entire 2 weeks biting my nails until she finally molts. Afterwords, I do feel relieved that my favoirte T made it for yet another molt cycle, but feel like crap for all those who've lost theirs.

I truly am sorry for your loss.

so sorry for the loss of your little furry blue berry.

I have 2 A. Versicolor slings that are siblings and i worry about them cause of the SADS thing but both are now 1" in leg span and eat like theres no tomorrow..they even will take crix from my tongs so atleast for now they are fine and well and are growing to be big spiders

i also have 2 avic avic's one is 3"-3.5" in leg span and the other is about 2.5" in leg span and still has a tiny bit of sling colors(faint black stripe down the abdomen and carapace isn't fully green) going on so just a juvie.

nobody tell my others but my avics are my favorites out of my collection and would be absolutely devestated if any of them passed away...i care very deeply about my others and don't want anything to happen to them either but avics are just something else to me.

Sorry to hear Zerg. Guys remember to make sure you put in a good amount of side ventilation into the enclosure before getting a versicolor.

That's what we're doing with our 3 Avics too. Our A. versi went through a rough molt when we first got it but thankfully she's molted twice since and is now doing much better. They're the ones we check on the most...talk about Avic paranoia. It's really too bad that there's a term for it (SADS) because it's so common. They're such great spazzy T's...there's nothing like misting one second and having an Avic sling on your shoulder the next.

Well, I just lost my last avic sling. In a deathcurl in ICU. Pretty sure it was too much humidity because droplets shouldn't be against the sides....

I'm just not good with these avics. Well... back to the research!

Definately NOOOO singapore violet for me for a really long time.
