First T Death...

I got this big mature female Rose Hair tarantula I fondly nicknamed 'Matika' after the famous T in the movie 'Jungle 2 Jungle'

For a few precious months I fed her large crickets and tried to find her a boyfriend. She was the biggest T I owned, one of my favorites.

I had made my own wooden frame screen lids to tanks. My cat keeps walking on them and busting them open that way with her weight. Matika escaped, I was crushed but she's a big spider so I figured maybe I'd find her...

Today I found her upside down in the death curl. I put her front half in a small dish of water, hoping she'd drink and revive but she hasn't even twitched. She's gone...

She's the first T that ever died on me. :( She was so beautiful, I didn't deserve her. I feel horrible, that T was probably older than me and it was my mismanagement that got her killed. :(

I'm buying some heavy duty strong lids for all my tanks, I won't let this mistake repeat again. It was a very painful lesson to learn.

:-(

Sorry to hear that. I am a new T owner and HUGE cat lover. I have three cats, and I am soooo paranoid. I keep my T's tank on a shelf with another shelf right above so that cats have no room to get at her!

So sorry for your loss.

i'm very sorry for your first t death :( but hey, live and learn. just think of all the mistakes you haven't made yet! but, among those, something like this wouldn't reoccur. she did not die in vain, at least now you can have your cat and Ts coexist in better security for the future
