Burms typically reach 7-10 feet in their first year if cared and fed properly. Then they are around 15 feet after the next year, and continue growing up aroun to 18-19 feet or so.

Ive always wanted one. But I dont have the space and the money to feed it chickens and rabbits.

Nice snake:)

How often do you actually have to feed a full grown burmese?

I knew a guy that had a python (I asked him which kind, he said "Just a python") at around 9 feet and fed it a large gerbil every month.

Seemed to do fine on that, until it cought pneumonia (Sp? too lazy to look it up) and died.

In the wild they usually get a meal every 2-3 months because food is much harder to find, versus the typical captive method of having your door opened and having a dead chicken on forceps float toward your head.

You can get by feeding them every 2 months, but if you want them all grown up real fast, every 3 weeks is a good time for them. You just have to remember to provide sufficient heat so their digestive tract works quick enough. Retics and Anacondas take more than a day to eat one of their horse sized meals. This typically should last them up to a full year. But its good to give them food in between as they also would in wild.

Some desert snakes can go 8-12 months with absolutely no water. But if its available, they willl always drink in between.

All this stuff is why I keep snakes. They can really survive the worst of conditions whether there is no food or no water. Sometimes I will fast my snakes for 1-2 months even though they are very small snakes, and can take food twice a week if they wanted. I usually do this to give them a little cleansing of the intestinal tract since it isnt uncommon to have undigested food in there. Especially in the winter when my enclosure temp drops 5-10 degrees

So burms grow length wise more in their first year and then get the width to them? Or has every one I've seen been overweight?
Mine is about 2 1/2' and pretty skinny yet.

Yeah, I saw a burn at a zoo once that was about a foot wide, but rather fat. When they get larger, they lose muscle and their bodies flatten out (I suppose:rolleyes: )

So technically, maybe they still have the same girth.
