Decided to pair up my G. rosea RCF couple today. When I woke up this morning I thought I heard drumming, but wasn't sure if it was my MM or something weird my crickets were doing, as I'd never heard T drumming before. Looked up a video on youtube and found it was the right noise so decided to go for it.
First off tried just opening their tanks next to each other, but he either didn't notice or couldn't be bothered with the walk cos he didn't do anything.
After waiting about 25 minutes and seeing nothing, I put him in a deli cup and moved him into the female's tank. He charged her straight away. I nearly had a heart attack cos I thought he was running away from me and hadn't noticed her, but now I think he knew exactly what he was doing
He got atleast 3 inserts - those that I definitely saw - and I reckon he probably got atleast twice as many while I was bumbling around with the camera.
Near the end she was jerking backwards every time he inserted and eventually she pushed him off. I'm not sure if she would have gone for him, didn't give her a chance, but I have the feeling she would have left him alone.
I'm really pleased with how it went, will try again in a few days or whenever he makes new webs. Right now he is up on the side of his tank doing weird bounces, not sure what that means but maybe it's a spider equivalent of "giggidy-giggidy".
