Hi again. I've had my isopods for about 4 weeks now, maybe a little bit more. They're dairy cows, about 20 of them, and I found my first dead one back-up this afternoon. It was inside some sphag moss laying there, and I'm really hoping I don't have a die-off. Should I be worried if I found one dead, and is it necessary to scout around for more?

If it was an adult, it could have been very old when you bought it. Simply, it could have died of old age.

That's what I'm thinking, really.. I'm ruling out hunger right now, because baby shrimp were a HUGE success in making them eat. Dropped a few in and they had a pile-on fiesta until there wasn't a crumble. I'm still in that phase of being paranoid as being new to a hobby goes, thank you!

Sometimes you lose one, not a big deal. I wouldn't worry a bit unless I noticed multiple dying, then I'd think something might be off

They should hopefully be fine, most likely just an old bean who's time was up. However, I would make sure to keep an eye out for a little while just in case others start to go too.

It gets scary when you lose 30% in a day. Under that % is just genes or weaker ones succumbing to an aggressive environment they are not ready for. Be patient, once they propagate then you will have your hands full.
