Well my big Acanthoscurria geniculata girl (roughly about 8" LS) - if i remember the measurement correctly - developed the symptoms of DKS (leg spasms, leg flaying, appearing to be "drunk" when walking, very, very wobbly and collapsing onto her belly with legs splayed out when walking etc) roughly 6 months ago. She had been in premolt since mid august (darkening and refusing food)... She has completed a successful molt roughly an hour ago and has now flipped over... Let's hope that she has "molted out of her symptoms" and has a "symptomless" long life.

fresh post molt pic

Ah man, I feel for you. I lost a 6" genic to that darn sickness. It seems like this species is almost prone to it.
any leads as to what might have caused it. For me, i never found out what did her in. All my other T's were fine and still are fine today.

I'm sorry you are going through it. My sincerest wishes to a recovery.

Update : She seems to be ok but she has hardly moved an inch since her molt. She has kicked hairs furiously once on opening her enclosure lid and her movements seemed to be a little more controlled than before. She is still alive but time will tell on her condition after she has fully hardened. I do not know the cause of her condition or infact if it is DKS (but she had displayed the typical symptoms of the condition). I am just leaving her be and monitoring her morning and night. Thanks for the comments guys. She is truly beautiful.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, Im just genuinely curious. Isnt DKS something caused internally or from their brain? I dont know if molting would make a difference if indeed it is internal. Im hoping theres more to molting than just a new set of skin.

That's why I stated she displayed the symptoms of DKS but that I was unsure if it was DKS.... It could well be something else but her symptoms were very similar to other T's that have had DKS. Whatever she has she had not been walking "normally."

Time will tell if she still has the symptoms post molt.

Update: still no movement from "Big Momma" ... she is still on her molt mat in almost the same position. And I haven't observed any stretching exercises but am sure she still alive as no curling or anything. Waiting for her to harden to see if she still has her symptoms is almost as nailbiting as the pre-molt period.

Update: Well she has started moving around her enclosure but she is still very shaky. I noticed her fangs were pure black so offered her a locust, (I normally feed crix but all my other crix are tiny) .. she attempted to catch it but had great difficulty with the thrashing she ended up doing :( ... looks like she isn't (out of the woods) .... poor baby :(
