I came home last night at 730pm to find Diablo, my vagans, splayed out like a passed-out sailor. WOO HOO! That meant I might actually get to BE THERE for a molt … the action didn’t begin until about 930-ish, and I actually missed the beginning – which is okay, if getting there in the middle is what I have to do, I’ll take it! It was the weirdest, most wonderful, bizarre macabre and fascinating thing all at once - I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but please indulge a guy just this once :D - wow, what a sight – it was like seeing an octopus extracting itself from a tight crevasse in slow motion – and the weird part was that the tight bundle of emerging legs were the trademark teal-blue color, but the carapace, fangs, and abdomen were a glistening mass of pale, shapeless tissue that kind of alarmed me at first – but I got over that, sat back, let nature take its course, and observed the whole process – the eeriest part for me was seeing the clearly vacated molt-legs still moving as Diablo slowly backed out of them, as if they were in some sort of final desperate death throes. Anyway, I tried to get pictures, and none were what I would even call satisfactory (see them below), but I can’t complain anymore about never witnessing a molt – YIPPEE!!! And Diablo came through the ordeal as sleek and beautiful as an 8-legged Lamborghini.

Cool. I have yet to witness one. I did see one of my slings trying to find a comfortable spot to flip over but I couldn't wait very long I was too tired that night. :wall:

I hope you don't have to wait as long as I did! It took 18 cumulative molts among my 7 Ts to finally catch one ... and my pulchripes has molted about 4 times already, and I haven't seen any of them, because he always molts in mis burrow:wall: . Not to sound discouraging, but my advice to you is to start thinking about which Ts you're going to get next! Maybe an arboreal, like an A versicolor ... and then a brachypelma smithi ... and then a lasiadora parahybana ... then a chromatapelma cyaneopubescens ... STOP ME!

Okay, you're 1 down 909 to go! The more Ts you have, the better the odds!

:D Im already thinking on what to get next! I will be picking up a smithi and a versi very soon. My hubby is planning on getting them for me for christmas, as the breeder we got our pulchripes from has versi slings and a GORGEOUS juvenile smithi. My family is still having an hard time understanding what happened to their arachnaphobic daughter who now wants T's for Christmas

First thing, congrats on witnessing your first molt, the first time I did, I was so amazed
Secondly, you should honestly be an author - your descriptions of the process are absolutely fantastic and paint a vivid picture in the mind, very very good writing :worship: Even someone who hasn't witnessed the ecdysis process before can get a very realistic feel as to what it's like...you didn't even need to post those pictures with a description like that

Molt and more

 I have to agree that is an awesome thing to watch. It seems that both of us spent about the same time frame watching a T molt for me it was one of my Brachypelma boehmei females. Just telling a friend today, no matter how many times you witness this it is still damn interesting. Hope you get to see many more.:D

Wow, thank you all! :worship: I'm glad you appreciated my little episode of excitement! More than that, I'm glad you share my fascination - I was describing this to a non-T keeper friend and he just sort of rolled his eyes  sigh ... there are those that will never understand hahah

Funny how a guy can get inspired by a little thing like a molt - I mean, it's not like Tarantulas haven't been doing this on a daily basis for the last million or so years, right? {D No matter - as far as I'm concerned they started yesterday! ;)

i will try and get pics if my camera will behave and focus.

this is Kippa's third molt here and second molt after losing a leg. when i got him he molted and lost a leg, next molt leg regenerated, this molt if i didn't tell you it happened you wouldn't know he was ever 7 legged. and hes such a fiesty little guy...likes to flick hairs and acts like he wants to bite me.

will T's be telekinetic(sp?) next?

i rehoused him very gently about 5 minutes ago and to show his thanks he flicked hairs and charged the straw i was coaxing him with. i personaly love his fiestyness though makes smile to watch his antics...like when he ends up attached to the lid of his house so i can see his underside and is trying to bite through the plastic...if i ever get bit by any of my T's it'll probably be him. my OBT is fast and spazzy but is a good spider whereas Kippa will get you if he can.

if it moves you i'll most likely fall down
