Love was in the air today when my matured female Nhandu colloratillosus finally accepted her male. He drummed and shook like crazy. Breeding of this pair has been attempted for months, only to have him rejected. On one occassion, she almost killed him. About five weeks ago, she molted and tonight I decided to give them a try (I figured the male was getting bored). She was very patient and cooperative. To my surprise, she even drummed with him. I saw multiple insertions and alot of brushing of his palps against her which lasted for at least 15 minutes. I am wondering if I should attempt to mate them again tomorrow. Any suggestions? I took alot of pics., but I didn't want to get carried away.

I would pair them again but not tomorrow. If the male used both palps and it sounds like he did, then he needs to make a new sperm web before you try to pair them again.
Congrats on the pairing! I hope you get a bunch of little guys in the future!

Now for our next performance.

Ryan, I appreciate your response to my thread. The male is no spring T. He has been matured for months now, so I seriously doubt he will spin a new sperm web. I believe he is kindaof "old", sort of. As of yesterday, I feared that it might have been too late to pair him up with the female and that his sperm might have "crystalized" due to him being rejected for so long, but his performance was excellent. He went right up there and did his thing. This went on for a while. He did alot of probing and rubbing alternating his palps while holding her at bay. I did notice that during the mating, he still shook and kept her lifted as in the third pic. for awhile. She in turn did not bulge, but shifted to give him better access. But, it's apparent he knew what he was doing. Is it possible that this could've been a case of "dry humping" LOL? Hope not. Should I still wait for a new sperm web before retrying? Or do you think that my male's train has passed? No unusual behavior noted on the female after the pairing.
Thanks,
Fredster
