After nearly a year, I finally have my first small batch of Discoid babies! I was very excited to see the little guys in the bin.

My questions are, do they feed exclusively on the adult frass? If so, for how long? Do I need to provide some veggies on a lower thing for them to reach? What about water? The adults have a dish with some aquarium glass in it so they don't get stuck, but it would be too high for the babies. I put a very small dish of water gel in the bin, is this sufficient? I also put a shallow dish of roach food for them. (it's from cricketfood.com).

Also, what is the average number of babies a female will produce at a time?

Thank you in advance.

I didn't count them when I got them, but there was 15-20. Pretty sure that is why they took so darned long to do anything. That and the fact that I wasn't able to get extra heat for them right away.

they are smarter than crix. i just put in a shallow (deli cup lid) dish of water and that worked. juicy fruits/veggies will also work ok.

A year is too long even if you had a dozen to begin with. A nymph should be reproducing in half a year's time. And the babies do feed on the dog food and veggies you put into the bin, but the adult frass is an easier alternative, so keep some in the bin at all times.

For moisture, I just give them the usual veggies each week. When I'm away I use water crystals.
