I will be “rescuing” a G. rosea from a small traveling petting zoo on Friday. The owner of the petting zoo picked him/her up at a pet store and quickly came to realize that the parents at the children’s parties and schools did not have a proper appreciation for these particular creatures. Based on what the lady told me on the phone I can see that my new little “Rose Hair” is going to need some normalizing. Twelve crickets a week!? Yikes!

Yay, now I get to join the rosea club!

Congrats Corranthe! Twelve?? Yikes is right! Must be a plump T. You could always put in an exercise video for it. {D If it's big enough you may get to see a molt soon.

I have 19 T's but really do adore my 2 roseas. I just finished mating them and it was such a great thing to watch. My male is a doll and the female was just won over by him.

Way to go. Enjoy your new one! Rosea, the ultimate lap T. {D

Thanks!

The lady said this rosea is only a little over three inches. So if she has been feeding it like she says she has, I should see a molt very soon. But then, I don't know how good a job she did measuring.

The pet store told her that it was female. Yeah, suuuuure. I think I'm not too interested in taking a pet stores word for it.

I'll post pics when I get him/her home on Friday night.

I have had 12 tarantulas, (and dozens of true spiders), and no rosea. My first T was Grammostola aureostriata, and since then I have developed an interest towards more "pet-holish" tarantulas.

But I will get rosea, at some point.

What took you so long Corranthe???? Congrats on the rosea.
Thanks!

I have no idea why I didn't just go to the pet store in the first place. That would have been the easy thing to do, rather than having my first T come in as a sling from an online dealer. :wall:

No rosea for me.

Just got a call from the woman at the petting zoo. She got a request to bring the rosea to a biology class to help teach kids about bio-diversity. She feels like now that word of mouth is getting around she may get more requests for her to bring the tarantula so she has decided not to sell it.

On one hand, I'm glad that there may be more people who will be exposed to these wonderful critters and decide to join our hobby. (My first exposure to the hobby was holding a friend of mine's rosea.) On the other hand, I was so very excited about this one. :(

Well, you can probably pick one up anywhere for $10-25. You are from around DC? I was going to suggest maybe the show further north in Havre de Grace, as they are always available there, but there are probably plenty of good ships around you. If you feel like taking a trip to Baltimore, I hear that House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie is a decent place, though they last time I was in there I was only ~9 years old and dont remember much. I have no clue about their T stock, maybe give them a call, or look for somewhere closer.

Anywhere that has any T's at all will have rosies. If they have nothing else they will have rosies.
Many places sell them for less than $20.

I've heard of House of Tropicals! I really should take a trip out there and see what they've got.

What I most liked about this particular rosea was that it came with a story. But I suppose when you get an adult rosea they all come with a story, those stories just aren't knowable.
