Very nice. I think the best in this pic is the face of the guy in the back... he doesn't seem to like the idea of holding that snake, lol.

How did you put it down? I would be too scared that as I'm trying to let go of it that it would have a real good chance of biting me.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that myself. When you've got a hot snake by the head, how do you let go? I'd assume the snake would be waiting for its oppertunity to nail ya!

Make sure the body isnt around your arm and then let the head go fast and stay out of the way.

I'm sure that I would look like Ace Ventura trying to shoe away bats if I was trying to put the snake down.

Nice! I would love to see one in the wild. On my all time must see list is a Bushmaster. One of these days!

Local knowledge of species being limited at best most Bothrops in Venezuela take on the name Mapanare, and as with most rural areas when one is sighted it is usually killed at least IME. I have never seen one alive personally though i imagine it must be quite interesting. the only venomous snakes i ever saw long enough to appreciate alive before they were brutally hacked to pieces by a local machete were a pair of Crotalus sp. (Cascabel) they were gorgeous i was however only 12 at the time so not much of a good argument came out of me as to why they should have lived, at least no argument that was listened to. I once also saw the corpse of a large Lachesis muta. Poor snakes.
