Wow!! I can see prosecuting the person, hitting them with a big fine, but beating them to death really? Kind of a scary attitude.

Good!

They should be scared too!! I want them to quiver in fear, just that the turtle must have before she died!

People like that need to be put in their place, by any means necessary. T

hey should know that they take their lives in their hands when they do these things, because people will know about them, and if enough local people know, no amount of locked doors and apologies will save them.

Despicable. They brutalized that poor animal for no reason. Animals shouldn't be killed for sadistic fun. Anyone who gets a kick out of something like that is similar to Hitler in my book

Hi John, I think this is the new stuff taught in schools these days, the "pendulum swing" in the other direction imo, too radical for me these days, maybe it will become more reasonable later. The people that did this probably learned their lesson just by watching the news and reaction. Many old-school people would do this also, people in their 60s even. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I watched very smart people, sit around a pond and blow the heads off turtles on a regular basis, cut up rat snakes just because they were snakes. Kids in my neighborhood would go around the park and shoot as many black birds that they could, smiling and laughing as they fell out of the trees. I've always had what felt like a natural respect for life in general though I did go through a phase, I shot grasshoppers and cicadas with my BB gun when I was around 9 or 10, I was a stick, could barely cock the BB gun. It's good to see the media flash something like this, education, imo that's as far as it should go. If I saw somebody go to jail for killing a turtle, I would seriously wonder about living in this country any more. I agree a fine and education is enough imo, the fine is the education. Some of the older people would see a turtle like that strike, then see it as a danger, then think they did people a favor by killing it, many were brought up that way. I remember hearing an older guy at work say, "If it can hurt me, I'm going to kill it."

I think similar to hitler is going a little bit overboard.

By me some thugs stole a live snapping turtle from a wildlife center the turtle was near 100, the turtle died from a heart attack and they found the dead body dumped down the road.

I would hospitalize the people who did this if I found them.

That's right, FBI/Police/whomever may read this. I would brutalize them to the same extent as the turtle.

Because they would deserve every damn bit of it.
It's easy to say things like that behind a veil of relative internet anonymity. If you really are some kind of violent animal rights vigilante, I hope it's worth it, because you won't be able to do much on behalf of animals from prison.

Obviously, there are some truly sadistic people out there. However, I know of many cases where animals were harmed because of fear. If you're passionate about animals, trying sharing your passion. Knowledge is a better antidote for ignorance than violence.

I read about this on reddit, it is such a tragedy. I feel pretty awful and sorry for that innocent snapper.

That is sad. It is not like anyone was in danger of being run down and attacked by a turtle. No excuse whatsoever for beating her. I hope the person/s responsible are prosecuted and learn a lesson.

The only time I ever saw a snapper, it was a monster in Lake Toxaway, NC. I was driving and couldn't go around it as it was on a mountain road bordered with trees. That is how large it was.
I got out of the car and tried to shoo it out of the way with a large fallen branch. That thing didn't budge. I got back in the car after tossing the much shorter stump of a branch on the side of the road. I never hit the turtle, but expected it to at least move away from me, or even toward me into the woods. It bit my branch and wouldn't leave the road. I felt no fear from it at all. It had a quick neck, but it is easy to walk away from.
It took me over an hour to get home as I had to go a different, winding, round the mountain, way. It could have taken me 10 minutes if there were no turtle. I was glad it was so big that no one would run it over(it would have destroyed a vehicle as it was the size of a mini car.lol).
I was a little upset about having to drive a ways, but it was one of the coolest things I ever saw. I would never hurt a creature, especially such an amazing one. It was surely older than myself, to be so huge. I guess it felt no reason to move from its basking spot on account of little old me.

Wow, this is one of those "cruel curiosity" moments. I don't understand how people could think that it's satisfying to brutally kill a turtle like this... And for what reason??? It's just sad to know that people would even think about doing something like this...
