Hi all

First post here after stumbling onto this forum via google.

First of all i am not a huge fan of spiders in general and not a chance in this world would i entertain a tarantula, however for whatever reason i have no problems with jumping spiders :wacky:

I have had a female Phidippus regius for a few months now, had 2 molts since i have had her and seems to be doing very well.

However this last week or 2 she doing something i have not seen before and i dont know if it is normal behaviour or if it is something i should be aware of ?
As we all know, wherever these things walk or go they leave a web trail (snail trails), however recently i see here attaching a web to the glass wall and then
raising her abdomen and walking off to another wall before sticking that web to another point.
in effect creating web strings all over the enclosure and sometimes tripping herself up over them.

is this normal ?
Should i clear some of them away ?
Is it a sign of something wrong?

Other than this behaviour she seems fine, eats and drinks no problem at all.

Any tips and advice will be very much appreciated.

this is just a guess, but she could be laying down pheromone trails so a male can find her when it stumbles upon one of the lines, some other arachnids like mites do something similar

Don't clear them away unless you can't get in there for cleaning or can't see her most of the time from outside the enclosure

I'm thinking it's the opposite. Holding the abdomen high is normal, as is dipping it down to attach the safety line.
