3:40 am, heard an enclosure moving. Ran into the living room and found g. puchra, the african millie, and the emp scorp's enclosures on the floor. Picked them all up, unburied them, quick check for movement, then back to bed. The $(^ *!@# cat has decided he is king and must sleep on a higher level... the cubbies in my cathedral ceilings. He's always used another route up, so I didn't discourange him. This a.m., he decided to climb the "enclosure ladder."

Poor pulchra had a flower pot in her enclosure. She has two damaged legs, one damaged pedipalp, and HER CHECICLERAE WON'T MOVE!! I swabbed her mouth and fangs with a little warm water, and she still didn't move them. She's in 100% humidity, 86F, dark and small ICU to prevent movement. I worked REALLY HARD to obtain an adult female, inspired by Joy's slideshow, I wanted one very badly.

The jury is out on the sentencing pending the outcome of the patient. The feline is guilty as charged but has forgotten the incident. My huband wants to sentence him to 8 lives in the Outdoor Penitentiary, I am in favor of the death penalty by lethal (pokie) injection. He'll probaly get off scott-free, the justice system has gone down the tubes!

:( I'm bummed!:(

Hey there....cats are good. They can be annoying, and in the back of our heads we know they'd eat us too if we were small enough, but with that constant smile and charm and all we can't harm them.

Sorry to hear about the incident though :(

Just do like I've suggested in the past for errant felines: diced, cubed, and frozen you won't have to buy T food for months to come.

jesus!

<sarcasm>why don't you just kill the cat </sarcasm>

:)

at least they were fine, and you didnt end up with a couple of dead pets.

although on a kind-of tangent, i was at a pet shop in St.Paul the other day sifting through the Slings and this guy was there with his GERMAN SHEPARD and on the dog's back was a nice big pulchra... i dropped my slings and started talking to the dude. Apparently, they've been together since he got them both, and the dog and the T kind of.. oh, i don't know.. hang out together? Its wierd, he says he's never seen a threat display from the T and the dog has never batted the T or tried to bite it. Apparently the T gets on the dogs back and just kinda chills out there..

It's very very very odd. I don't think i'd believe it if i read it or heard it, but i saw it first hand.

then again, i've heard stories of 2 seemingly different pets working out together :)

anyways
good luck terri.

I understand how irritated you are with your cat, but just remember, the cat had no idea of what he was doing. I practically have my own menagerie in my house, and the dogs are always knocking things over, so I have just learned to place things like invert cages in areas where they cannot be easily accessed by the other animals. Besides, I am so sick and tired of my father complaining about and threatening all cats (I have six), that I just can't stand to hear other people do it, too. I know we all have our likes and dislikes, but I don't agree with punishing the cat for it. My cat once knocked over and broke the aquarium that I was keeping a little painted turtle in, and since this happened during the night, the turtle was nowhere to be found. That made me very upset, but what can you do?

I am a dedicated cat lover... have had 12 at a time. I am just very mad at him right now, so if I call him "roadkill", I can be forgiven at a later date! I know it's not his fault, I have trained him very well with the super soaker squirt gun to stay away from my Ts. Unfortunately, I never told him not to use them as a ladder!! Don't worry, I promise not to take Code Monkey's advice... even though I considered it for a brief moment!!

Using a squirt gun sounds like a very good idea! I'll have to remember that.

Heck, why not the hose? Thats what i'm about to do when one more of my moms dogs goes in my room and S****, same for the cats because they shed all over my bed and their hair sticks to me when I wake up.

While I do not like the hair sticking to me when I wake up, I see it as a minor inconvenence. Having the pet is well worth dealing with the hair. No cat hair is as bad as urticating hairs, right? ;)

I would disagree 100% since uricating hairs can be controlled, where as cat hair gets in places even i don't know how it gets there...specially when you go to someone's house who owns a cat and sit down..then stand up and have hair on your clothes...

I don't mind cats...but I won't own one just becuase of the hair and litterbox.

Is there anyway to keep the cats out of the tarantula room? if so why not just block them off from the cats that is prob the safest. One morning when I was in my old house I came into the tarantula room where both my tarantulas and chinchillas were living, Marge (my Female chinchilla) was sitting up behing the rosies tank in the same corner as the rose. I wouldnt have minded so much but there was chinchilla poop on the screen lid which made me pretty angry. Chinchillas poop like crazy. The tarantulas were on a pretty high desk but if anyone here owns chinchillas you know that they are very good problem solvers, if you give them enough time to figure out how to get up on something they will. SO needless to say I stuck them both in their cage for the rest of the day (they were in an empty room so they just ran around in the room where there cage was) and put up barriers in front of the desk that the tarantrulas were on. From then on they never got up.

peace

I WISH! There is nowhere but the living room. And Mr. Buddy the cat has run of the house. But I will DEFINITELY be making some changes when I get home!!

Went home for lunch, she is the same. The thing that bothered me the most this morning was she readily laid on her back for the fang inspection without a struggle.

There is a conspiracy... the cat and the dog are VERY close. Miss AKC Registered With A Spotless Pedigree German Shepherd Sascha von Henry II who thinks she is Miss Thang had gotten into the trash after I left this morning. She is very well trained, gan even give an affirmative or negative answer when I ask her if she needs to go potty... So they are DEFINITELY ganging up on me!!

WAS WONDERING.... She's big and fat and very hydrated... how often should I disturb her to give her water? She does not need to eat for a couple of months. But I want her to move as little as possible because this could be a crush-type injury. I WILL look at her about every 3 minutes.... but I don't want to DISTURB her.:?

Well, she was in great condition before this happened... so I'm hoping she won't need too much water! I have her in 90% humidity. She was "spunkier" this morning!!:D

But, I have had to "water" a T before, I use a sterilized paint brush and dip it in water then straight to the Ts mouth. And then you hope it dissapears!

SHE'S BETTER!!!!

Last night, I was feeding and cleaning cages. I noticed a LOT of doodie in her I.C.U. so I prepared another one. When I got her out to transfer her, she ran like crazy, using ALL 8 LEGS! I picked her up and she used her palps to feel my hand!!! This mornng, she had her face in the water dish!!! Yay!! Now, all I have to do is see her eat, and I will be able to breathe again.

Oh, the cat has trained me... I have forgiven him and he got fresh caught ocean tuna for dinner last night. All is back to normal.....until NEXT time!

Good news!!

I am glad to hear that she is feeling better.

I have learned that my pets own me, I don't own them. :D And I am getting very good at jumping through hoops! ;)

Oh, if only science had turned its all seeing eye to cats! If we had just known of their curious nature and tendency to get into things this accident might have been averted! Sorry to sound harsh, but didn't you know cats did this sort of thing? I have three cats living in my house, and I keep the door to my room shut at all times as a result. Thankfully, I've never had an incident like this.

There must be some way of segregating your cats from your inverts; have you considered putting the tarantulas in a closet? If you must have the warm and cold bloodeds in the same space, you'll have to get used to this kind of conflict.

As an aside, I like playing with the cats I live with, but I resent having to look out for hair, hairballs and crap. Obviously I don't own these felines; if it were up to me this would be a strictly human/caged animal household.
