Feeling sad about a life too short

My boy War (Androctonus Australis) came to me as an adult and unknowingly to wild caught.( I try to avoid WC as much as humanly possible for ethics and preservation of our native populations) I have had him about 3 years plus his unknown age.

He has really slowed down since 2 days ago and today was even harder. I know he likely doesn't have much time left.

I am both deeply saddened by this downturn as well as the fact that I couldn't find a female for him in time. I have really come to enjoy him, he was the most gentle scorpion I have ever owned. He has never attempted to strike at my tongs when I worked with him, he didn't really run from my sight. I honestly don't think he would have ever stung me but of course I'd never risk that. I wish I could hold him and comfort him and I can't.

I will miss my boy very much, the night time hunts and adventures that I'd watch under red lights. I hope that I can preserve him so I will always have him when he does pass.

The picture here you will see a wet spot, I don't typically do this for my desert scorpions because of the risk of mycosis. But today this is an act of mercy to give him water since he hasn't eaten.

I get it. When my Black Asian Scorpion, named Asgeirsson, passed away I dried him and I have him propped on my shelves now. He is still with me, and I miss him dearly as I had him for years

I'm sorry to hear that but glad he is always with you. Nobody will understand and feel the loss except for keepers of arachnids. He was one of my 1st scorpions that I got in an effort to understand them and overcome my fear of them and I fell in love with them. He was truly my sweetest scorpion. My young female wants to murder me as do my LQ but he was honestly different.

I remember Asgeirsson used to be the cutest thing when he was thirsty he’d crawl over to his water dish and put both giant claws in the water and just dip his little head in to drink… it was my favorite thing to witness. I now own a Vietnamese Centipede, and truthfully he’s boringggggg unless I poke him and I hate disturbing his peace😂

I love when I'm adding water to my Asian forest scorpions dish she pinches it, it's the most adorable thing ever. 🥹
