Feeding Young Scorpions

Hi folks.. first post apart from hello…

I have a new baby scorpion (Blue Forest), and was told by the shop that I just need to leave food (I was given small locusts) in the box he is currently in.. but I have seen people manually feeding their scorpions (ie holding food in front using tweezers).
Could someone let me know if it’s ok to leave food in their living area, or if I should be more proactive with their feeding?
Cheers

1. Open the scorpion enclosure.
2. Drop a feeder insect.
3. If it gets eaten, good. If not, take it out.
4. Close the scorpion enclosure.

I have a young ASF, and so far he will only eat prekilled prey. He runs away from live prey. He is on his 3rd or 4th molt. I crush the head, then press it up against his mouth and drop it there. He always eats it.

Interesting. I guess I will try again with live in a few days. What do you think is the reason my scorpion is afraid of live food than yours?
Maybe prey is too large, mine is about 1/2-3/4 body length of the scorp, not counting tail

General rule of thumb for feeding scorpions - prey no bigger than 1/3 the length of the scorpion.
Also don't feed too smaller prey as larger scorpions can't catch really small prey.

thanks for the advice, I think my prey size is in line with that, but he has not shown any interest in feeding since I got him on Christmas Eve. I have been putting in one locust every day, then in the morning taking the uneaten prey out, leaving it a while and trying again. Hopefully he will get hungry soon :)

Just like T owners! It never fails to amaze me how man thinks millions of years of evolution is somehow not going to work and the animals need our help- when they don’t.

I will encourage you to post photos of the animal and the enclosure setup. Unfortunately most new scorpion owners start out with completely inappropriate enclosures, largely because of incorrect information being given at pet stores. You can prevent 99% of common health problems and deaths just by ensuring you have the enclosure set up correctly for the species.

I will be very happy to do that, great idea. I am awaiting a new viv which arrives tomorrow. When I have set everything up I will post a few pictures - any validation will really help to keep my mind at ease.
