I wish to try this But id really like to hear from people who have already tried this without being bitten, Im betting if i drop a cric just infront of the T whilst its in my hand it will simply jump forward grab the cricket and sit there eating it, not munch on my hand right?? they dont Eat the floor of the tank when they catch one

Anyone got experience here?

Well, I don't you would get bitten. However, I don't think I would want to try it. Crickets have a tendancy to jump and I am not sure how easily you would be able to have the cricket land in front of the T and stay still. If the crickets ends up jumping, your T could go after it and fall.

Why do you want to do this? The T would probably bite you by accident in the process...not a smart idea.

Feeding T's in hand...

I have heard of brave souls doing this, and commend them for their craziness but I wouldn't try it personally. The risk of fall or the invitation for a bite doesn't appeal to me. I would rather watch them feed behind glass, which is just my personal opinion.

This risk of a fall is not part of the equasion ,I would never handle a T more than an Inch or two above a soft cussion :D , As for the bite im not going to say its not posible ofcorse i risk a bite But i got a hunch its low risk my T doesnt miss an bite the substrate, iv never seen it miss an get a face full of dirt before provided it thinks my hands the floor i should be ok :? ....

There mustbe some people that have tried this?

gah jeez look at all the negative posts what a bunch of sissys there is just one person who actualy tried it on that thread an he was apsoluty fine?

Ok I shall prepare and try pluck up the balls, then i will attempt it , i Will make sure its recorded for all if i get bite then you get a funny video if not I got the ultimate feeding clip :D Iver way it will make a good video!

Think i will need to tie my hand down to the table for this I know if it does bite i must NOT make a sudden move(fling it off) Il get someone to help film an assist :D

LOL galeogirl! :D

Yeah, and mimic, while you're at it - I havn't seen a "T biting hand" video yet. So could you please record a short little film about that afterwards and skip the cricket completely? :D ;)

ehh worth a try I guess

I'm sure if you had a nice and docile fella you could give it a shot. always the chance of getting bitten and does kind of make you a novelty hobbiest but I'm not saying it wouldn't be interesting. I wouldn't do it though, don't need any sore holes in my palm. Also, granted they aren't the smartest of animals but I don't want any T to be able to make the slightest association between my hand and food.

Not a good idea

I am a new T. owner well not as new as I was 6 months or so ago, but I can tell you just from watching mine when they feed, I wont no part of it on my person. I have seen them struggle with the prey if it almost gets away and it is a awesome site, behind the GLASS.

In fact I so rarely go into my T’s home that they think anything in there is fair game for a meal. The only time I do anything in there home is when I take the tongs and pick out the dirt balls of remains or clean the glass with a wet paper towel.

My G rosea is a very aggressive feeder she jumps on it soon as it hit the ground, I drop them in front of her, and if she misses she will then chase it down. My A seemani is more of the sit and wait kind of feeder and even she will struggle with her prey if it plays hard to get.

My A seemani really don’t like anything in her ‘house’ she is very ill tempered even to the point of rearing up on her hind legs at me when I’m cleaning it, never mind just flicking a few hairs at me she goes right into the this is not a test. The few times I caught her on the screen trying to chew her way though with those fangs and mind you she was doing a very good job of making holes in it, which is why she now has a steel mess screen instead of the one that came with the tank.

I’ve been bitten by a lot of different kinds of animals including a Boa which by the way hurt like heck, so this is one I really don’t need to experience to know that I wont no part of it.

I have seen both of their fangs and felt the impact of the A seemani on the tongs I use to clean with, and I can tell you just from the force I felt from that it would not be pleasant to have them inserted into my skin.

Sorry for being so long winded, I just get carried away when I hear of people thinking of doing something like this, these are wild animals and they do what they feel they need to in order to protect themself from harm, that and we are the ones that lock them up and keep them in tanks so it is also our responsibility to protect them from harm, and since we know what happens if one takes a fall why would we want to put them in that kind of danger if it is not absolutely necessary.

Ok first of all, the T wont even eat out of his cage when not feeling secure. I'm sure its happend to you guys before when you tried feeding your T in the tank and you made too much moverment and scared it and didn't eat. Animals don't usually eat when not feeling secure.

And second, even if it did grab a cricket while ur handling it without biting you or anything....what do you do then? wait an hour until its done eating? If one of my T's is eating and I bug it, it will let go of the food and walk away.

So I'm thinking this isn't really possible.....cause T's you usually handle don't bite your fingers and stuff....why would they go for the crix :embarrassed:

Depends on a species .... I'm sure my versicolors would do it. They even jump out of their tanks when I feed them. When they see cricket in my forceps they jump on it, get the cricket and jump back to tank ... !!
