Feeding Ts house spiders?

Just a question that's popped into my head, if there was a house spider knocking about my room and I dropped it in my genics tank, would it be safe for her to eat? I have read about making sure there's no insecticides on the house spider somewhere before but wouldn't the insecticides have killed the house spider to begin with? I live in England aswell, just to clear up what I mean by 'house spider'

ultimately no one can stop you, but its general frowned upon in the hobby.

also its usually ill advise to feed your T wild caught food for obvious reason of pesticides, but also because their might be other things like parasites for instance that may harm your T.

Agreed, it's not worth the risk when you can get food you know is safe

If i catch a huge black cricket or grasshopper what i will do is feed it fish flakes and isolate it for two weeks b e fore giving to a t. Also i would rinse it immediately after catching and again before feeding

i like to take choice bugs off the screen door in the summer, its a treat for them and me. lil risky i suppose, but i live out in the woods pretty much. Havent had a problem. years ago I fed a cicada to a scorpion and it got parasites from it, and i never feed anything another cicada again. Beetles and moths tho...open season. spiders I dont for ethical reasons heh

As mentioned... frowned upon in the Hobby, as well as risk of pesticides, parasites, parasitic mites, etc.

Why risk it?

Last time I heard someone trying to do this it was with a sling (not sure how old your T is) and the "house spider" ended up trussing up and almost eating the T! (the keeper rescued it in time and luckly it recovered from the poison. )

I'd say it's just not worth the risk. That and I admit to me it's creepy. It's no different then that "feed a T a T " thread IMHO. A spider is a spider is a spider regardless of its a "T" type of spider or a "true" spider. I dislike it when one person likes T's and then goes around and squishes a house spider because it's a pest. (Saw someone do this in an exotic pet store.)

But then... I got my love of Ts because I loved house spiders as a kid.

What you'd be doing is pitting one, large, relatively slow, not-so-venomous spider against one, small, fast, possibly exceedingly venomous spider in hand-to-hand combat. Are you into cheap, 1950s, Japanese or Mexican creature-feature type horror movies? Do you think it's worth the risk? It's your decision.

Enjoy your little 8-legged saber-toothed cat!

If u want cheap feeders get Feeder roaches!!! they don't carry pesticides
As for the house spiders !! make them kill each-other if U want bizarre entertainment...

I've fed a few of my Terrestrials Wild Spiders before but I do not plan on doing so in the future:biggrin:
My G rosea was so much larger it didn't notice the little wolf spider and wouldn't eat it:wall: Failure (3 yrs ago feeding attempt)

Seems like an awful lot of work with how cheap store bought crickets are. You can't wash internal parasites off. OP, bottom line: It's not a good idea.

I wouldn't risk it, cause some house spiders are more venomous than T's, plus most are fast to react spin webs quickly, even if your T did eat it, as said could hold many pesticides or many other things, I'm looking after a house spider just now a T,duellica and it's very speedy so would not risk my T's.

I'll never get the people that love their T's, but have no appreciation for spiders... Catch the spider, and let it go outside so it can continue to fight the war against the annoying insects we all hate, ie; house flies, mosquitoes, gnats, etc etc... :p

Why feed Ts house spiders they kill House pests:o_O:
Feeding wild prey too T's is not worth the Risk IMO
