i just caught a moth from my backyard, and i am wondering if i can feed it to my Avic? would it be safe to feed? there are no pesticides used in my yard. I would appriciate any replies ASAP because i dont want the moth to die before i get a chance to feed it.
thanks

As long as you are absolutely, positively sure there are no pesticides in your yard or in your area go for it. Remember a moth can fly in from some distance so you have that to think about. I feed mine wild caught grasshoppers all the time with no problems.

I would suggest you don't do it Í've herd that some moths are toxic to other animals, why risk it?

i never knew that. come to think of it the day before my h.lividum died i tryed to feed it a molth, she did'nt eat the molth thoew. could the molth some how have poisoned the spider? this is also the only food item that the spider did'nt try to eat(i never saw the spider try to eat it anyway), so she may have been sick before that. what do you think?

not exactly sure. just a Theory but mabey the powdery substance on the moths wings could be toxic?

I caught a black & orange moth and fed it to my B. Angustum two or three months ago. She caught it mid-air! I would do it again.

In Kamloops where I used to live we would got moth plagues in fall when thousands of moths would be seen everywhere. I fed three Brachypelma albopilosum spiderlings moths for three months and they were happy and molted three times each.

I'm not saying all moths are toxic, just some. why take the chance of harming you T. Do a search and you find that other people will back me up on this

thats a cool idea for food!.....i have been having TONS of moths outside on my windows in the evenings recently. I usually bring one or two in for the kitties to play with but hadn't thought of feeding my avic or other spiders. I do have a bug man that supposedly sprays the perimeter of my house monthly though so maybe I should just stick with the kitty toys....
