Feeding mantids

Hey,

How often should i feed my mantis? Im a bit sketchy about it as i dont want his abdomen to burst.

It's basically the same as any other invertebrate. They won't eat if they don't need to, so you don't have to treat them like goldfish. But, at the same time, you should just leave their food in there. If enough crickets get in a space, they can take advantage of a weak or injured pet, and actually eat it!

as said above crickets are carnivours too, when the oppertunity permits its self.

a common guide line i've read a few times is you mantid should look fat, but shouldn't look like its going to burst.

mantids eat alot, well mine is 2.5" long adult female who making eggs, laid 4 so far so she's eating like a hourse. I've been feeding her 5 1" long black crickets a week. which is too much normaly, but since she's making eggs its ok.

what species of mantid and how big?

a mantid hunting is incredible :eek:

He's a Green african mantis, about 2.5cm long. I haven't managed to see him hunt yet :( He seems to just like basking in the light and staring at me. hehe.
