I unfortunately had the horror of having 4 small Macropanesthia rhinoceros die after introducing them to eucalyptus leaves that I thought would make them thrive. :8o
I have now heard that only certain species of eucalyptus leaves are safe for these amazing little aliens.
Now that I have received a few more I was wondering if any one knew the correct species of eucalyptus, and or where I could obtain some.
Also what other foods are recommended?

Ps. could my substrate have killed them? I was using white sand and a touch of standard potting soil.
Thanks!

What did you do for water ? I have only had my two a few days but burrowing like mad ! I have not seen them eat yet. MIne are on fine sand but I pour a little water in one side and let it soak in a bit. The are tunneling in the moist side.

M rhinoceros

Hello Guys,
I have mines in a mixture of peatmoss and leafmold. I occasianally put in some Eucaliptus leaves, dried leftover pieces from my Phasmids. I also give them dog food pellets and carrots.
Eucalyptus, I use the long, skinny leaves not the round ones.

They naturaly live in Northern Queensland in Eucalyptus orchards and eat the dried leaves. Mine has brought a pile into the tunnels to eat later I guess. I will try a few other things just in case. One died:mad: after 15 days but the other is doing great.

Leaves

I just wanted to menbtion that i feed all Rhino Roaches dry food only.
I feed Eucalyptus leaves and oak leaves, they are kept on a bed of coconut husk lightly misted once daily, and water crystals. I have never had a problem with them not eating or any die from the leaves. There are a few kinds of Eucalyptus, but the one you feed is the ones with the long leaves, the rounded leaves are poisonous for some reason, i believe its because it thicked and they retain more of the poisonous chemicals when dried.
I have a ready supply of dried Eucalyptus leaves on hand and i ship leaves with every order of Rhino roaches to prevent confusion as what to feed and to maintain good health.

Thanks for listening guys,
