Hello! I had a wild caught jumper for a week (found inside my apt), and he happily ate a small cricket every couple days when I fed him. I released him a week later when I realized he was a she and was very pregnant. I then bought an adult captive bred male jumper from a breeder, who told me he only eats one meal worm per week. That has proven true. His mealworm will hang out inside some moss until he is ready to eat. He is a year old, is feeding strictly meal worms healthy? Or should he have crickets in his diet?

With a 1 year old male, think geriatric human and you're giving aid and comfort during his golden years. Feed him whatever takes his fancy that doesn't require effort and minimize all stress. But as mentioned, once a week or even less on feeding. Overeating will shorten his life span.

PS Welcome to AB.

welcome!

yeah as the snark said hes an elder. once a week is just fine, and mealworms are a good staple. i do like to give variety now and again, but when i dont have extra feeders on hand, mealworms are what my spiders eat most of the time to start with. mine are very healthy and happy with that. if you feel like giving him a treat, get some small silkworms, theyre the best feeder- but pricey and hard to continually feed- so itll be like a gourmet meal. fly spikes or flies are a great meal. i dont use crickets at all. but ive heard good things about banded crickets- as opposed to house crickets- as feeders. just be sure not to leave him with crickets or mealworms overnight. they dont harm spiders often, but an elder can definitely get hurt by them.
