Reading about certain species possibly eating.pollen and spores, got me wondering. their spines probably.make them less likely to be under logs, bark etc. so arboreal seems likely and so got to thinking.what they may eat. perhaps species of fungi, Lichen, Moss etc?

Some interesting species, some look like they could fit into cracks, others hve massive spines.

Pseudarmadillo assoi
Calmanesia sp.
Pseudolaureola sp.
Etc.

Seems like a whole new world to learn about with isopods perhaps concuring.canopies.

I've done a little bit of research into these but info is pretty hard to find. They look super cool, especially the cuban ones. Let me know what you find

Perhaps lichens, algae biofilm that grows on bark, rocks... as you guess.
I know for a friend that porcellio succintus(they arent spiny but..) eat some lichens that grows on pine branches and bark at great height from soil.

While a very large group of spiny isopods are arboreal to an extent, there are plenty of them that live on the ground, under rocks and among wood, or in caves. My guess is spines or tubercles serve a lot of different unrelated purposes. As for their diet, it's equally varied. Arboreal species will definitely partake of lichen and moss, and some like Pseudolarolea atlantica have more specialized food choices like fern spores. Meanwhile terrestrial and trolgobitic species will probably partake of the usual fare of dead organic material, live plants, and fungi. Considering the vast majority have not had their behavior studied and have simply been described or revised, theres bound to be a lot of surprises diet wise.
