Feeders for some, pets for me.

I bought two female pet rats from the exotics shop (they were selling them as feeders). I've been working on socializing them for a few days, and they are starting to get very calm and affectionate. Rats make great pets, intelligent, affectionate, and unlike mice and gerbils and hamsters, they won't ever bite you (unless you happen to get a particularly mean individual, I've never been bitten by a pet rat, and these are not my first), and will learn to not poop/pee on you.

These girls still need names.

First, my hooded rat:

Second, my gray rat:

And another shot of the hooded rat burrowing in a shirt of mine:

Very cute. For some reason, I don't find mice cute, but rats are a different story.

Aww these are the cutest feeders Iv'e ever seen ;)...
Seriously I've been thinking of getting rats, but then I think my snakes would get a little upset by the constant "good smell" and also I'm not a fan of seing those nice animals getting sick and die within 2 years. But that's not said in order to plunge down on the topic... those rats sure are cute :)

Yeah, they're awfully cute. The shirt they were on was used as a poop guard, though I don't have to use it anymore, as they've gotten used to me, and rarely poop on me now.

The hooded rat is very energetic, and likes to annoy the larger grey rat. She especially likes to run up, hump the grey rat furiously for a few moments, and then run away :).

I've always wanted a pair of pet rats, but decided I don't have the time to spend with them. (I read that you must spend a lot of time with them to bond.) They really are intelligent and social creatures.
