You can breed rats

or different rats called African soft furred rats

rats in general breed much faster than mice do and they are less prone to killin their babies on purpose.

you can't expect miracles from feeders. yes they can be calm and such, but if you don't bond with them and don't hold them daily then yes they might bite. it's common sense. :p but since they are a feeder you probably won't want to be bonding with them, soo...

domestic rats are more likely to bond with you and your child i just got some information on soft furred rats.

Soft furred rats are a bit nappy so probably not something you want your child to hold.

They are smaller than the normal size rats and are real nervious

you can go to a pet store and them

when you go to a pet store DONT tell them you are getting them for breeding or they might not sell you them. so just tell them you are getting two for pets.

if they ask you why you want different sexes just say because you cant decided between females which are more active than the males. or the males which are really laid back so you want both.

You can buy good, healthy, sociable rats from a pet breeder and use their babies for feeders. That way you have some pettable and some you know ahead of time you won't be getting attached to. By the way, if you handle and socialize the babies, get them used to different objects and smells, and can resist becoming attached to them they will be less likely to bite your reptiles at feeding time than rats that were not handled. I wouldn't go telling a pet breeder your plans to breed feeders. They would probably refuse to sell to you.
