If I clean the cage?? how can I prevent fruit flys from breeding in the roach cage ??? ANy ways too block ventalation so they cannot get in???
either way, i would SUGGEST using a cheesecloth or some nylons/pantyhose material on the roach colony somehow (if possible)
That should be able to stop them (id imagine)
If they are fruit flies (they dont necessarily have to have red eyes...there are different mutations including sepia colored eyes, and white eyes...) you can set up a fruit fly trap. Take a 2L pop bottle and cut it in half so that you can invert the top into the bottom (like a funnel). Stick something in there that the flies like - red wine, a banana peel...- and then invert the top into the bottom. Put tape about the two of them to hold them together and to prevent the flies from sneaking out the sides. The flies will be attracted to the food source, and fly down there, and then be unable to get out. If you use the wine they will drown. If you use banana or something else, you risk them reproducing (something they do very well).
I secretly love fruit flies. I spent way too much time in the genetics lab looking at them under the microscopes
I took an old fine threaded dress shirt that no longer fit, cut a strip of material out and taped it over the vent holes of my Dubia colony. Works quite well.
All black sounds like fungus gnats; do they have black stripes on brown-ish bodies?
All of the Dipterans are the result of conditions being a little off in your roach bin; not necessarily for your roaches but certainly with regards to what organic matter is where and in what form. You won't ever be rid of any of them (no matter how hard you try to screen your bin) without first taking care of the food source of the flies' larvae.
I cannot seem to get rid of these fly.. Perhaps they are Black fungus Nat's
Any Advice??? New container will obviously be used for my roaches,.. So they cannot get in
Transfer your roaches to a new container, this time making sure the little buggers cant get in. Then I would take the old container outside, wash it out. If they're in your house, then you need to figure out what they're feeding on, and make sure they cant feed on it anymore. As long as they have food, no matter what you do, they'll come back!
