Yeah...he earned his freedom
On a side note...I have a frog and I've seen mice do similar things. The only difference is that they can't figure out where the frog went and then they venture back in front of it.

At least that mouse had some brains. The mice i get walk up in front of my snake and try to make friends. 
Same with the crickets,for the Ts, but i guess theire brains are smaller. ;P
