Tomorrow Walter goes to the Denver Butterfly Pavilion for a chance to mate w/ their female L. parahybana. (Thanks again, Atrax! ;) Here's a couple parting shots of the big guy. (sniff)

That is pretty sad... He is a pretty boy too! Well just think that he is fulfilling his life's mission. I am not sure how I will feel if that day ever comes. Good luck little guy!!

Walter must be a pretty nice guy - I didn't think you could hold parahybanas. No wonder you will miss him! :(

It's hard to say goodbye to a friend, but I think you're truly doing the right thing by increasing captive populations and preserving these beautiful animals for future generations to enjoy, as well as allowing Walter the gratification of acting on his instincts. And maybe he will pass his Mr. Nice Guy genes to his spiderlings. Ask for a Walter Jr. :)

Most any T can be held just not all can be grabbed up like a smithi can. It all comes down to knowing how.

Mature males however seldom try to bite as they are only interested in mating and running.

Yes, he his handleable...but definately not like my G. rosea. You have to much more careful. As a matter of fact, if you look closely at my hand in the second pic you can see some clumps of hair...he gave me a heck of a dose!
If the mating is successful, he'll do 50/50...which means that I will have some to donate to the site! I don't think I'm equipt enough to handle that many little ones.
