This is my newest mammalian acquisition (Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Botar ;) ).

Meet...uh...."Prick." He's pretty friendly, and it's hilarious to watch him walk.

I just got him on Saturday. He's met a lot of people in the past 2 days, poor guy. He seems to be acclimating well, though. Tolerates handling just fine, doesn't hiss and stick his spines up as long as I don't startle him, and he when I let him out, he waddles around sniffing everything. He looks a bit like a burr on wheels. {D

What a charming little fellow he is. Great little critters,Hedgehogs. We had a family of them living in our garden,a couple of years ago. They are brilliant slug and snail exterminators.

Congratulations T.A.C. :D

Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't European hedgehogs a different species from the ones you find on the pet market?

Mal - I'm pretty sure you are correct. The African Pygmy Hedgehog is the common descriptive name of the one people keep as pets here - a mix of species and all captive bred, according to the reading I've been doing.

Atalanta your hedgehog is very nice.

I had one orphan(Erinaceus europaeus) a couple years ago. My mother found him on the bank of Danube....hedgehog was in the dog's mouth :( My mother take him away from the dog.

In the beginning he got a milk with a babynutriment in every three ours. After the toothchange got a firmfood.

In next year spring (after the hibernate) the young hedgehog became free...

My younger brother learnt a laws of Rome with the babyhedgehog..... :)

Hedgehog grew to 1,40kg in 3 months :) .

The Hh and me...

sorry for my good english

LOL... love it.

Next time you're by dad's, be sure to stop in and see "Steve"... he's my new Savannah monitor named after the topic of the movie "The Tao of Steve".

I will certainly do that. I'm jealous - monitors are incredible.

And you are seriously only the 3rd person I've met who has seen that movie - what a great flick!
