Last night, I found Conway (2" T. gigas) unresponsive on his substrate.

Both aspects of that - unresponsive, and on the substrate - are 100% out of character for him.

I moved him into an ICU, where he changed position within an hour or two... but is not any more responsive...

Nothing has changed, environmentally.

Same hot case, around the same Ts, same feeders, same water...

Same crappy owner :(

I'm going to stop having "special" and "favourite" slings, because those are the ones I lose. *sigh*

Oh, Jairi, I am SO sorry. :( You're just really having any luck are you. When Marley matures and makes some baby T. gigas for me, I'm be sure to send some to you.

As much as it blows,it happens sometimes. That is one of the downfalls about owning numerous T's.. Something is going to happen, sometime even under the best of care..You just never know when it will happen.Sorry to hear this.On a sidenote, the lil ones I promised you are doing great. They have started to cannibalize, and shpuld be moulting into 1st instar soon.

Thanks yall :(

Brett - that's what I keep telling myself. That these are animals, nature occurs even in captivity... and the more animals you have, the more likely it is to run into problems.. I just seem to be sought out by those problems :(

Ariel - So cute that you decided on the name Marley for him.. and thank you very much for the offer

Abby - Thank you.. I just feel at such a loss. When my dogs or horses are ill, I can always fix them or give the vet proper information to diagnose and treat them. There's no such way to do that with Ts :(

Thats one of the worst things with owning tarantulas. We hardly ever know why they die. Horses, dogs, cats, even fish, you can often figure the reason out. But we know so damn little about Ts, we're often just left shaking our heads. I'm sorry for your loss, there was nothing "crappy" about your ownership

I agree... It even happen's to experienced keeper's.... sorry for your loss... keep your head up... not your fault... sometimes we all over look our pet's , what ever the case or cause maybe...... not saying you did... but with the amount of T's in your collection.. i understand at times, it's is hard, or overwhelming to keep up with a lot of slings... cheer up you still got alot of other BEUATIFUL T's...

Dang Jairi!! Im sorry to see this happen to Conway.. :( Its NOT your fault! If your a crappy owner that makes me even worse than crappy.. Instead of loosing one of my fav. T's I lost 2 plus 3 others.. You are far from crappy owner!

You are not a crappy owner!!!! If anything you go above and beyond what many people do for their T's. You have some really nice enclosures for them and you even transformed that cabinet into a hot box for them. My heating cabinet looks ghetto compared to that hot box of yours.Im so sorry for your loss, they may be small, and not spiders lovers may hate them, but they are like any other pet. Loosing one will always be hard.

Thank yall for the support.. I really appreciate it

TheTsupreme.. I'm gonna leave him in the ICU until I know for sure, but he hasn't even flinched a foot since he moved into the corner :(

Arachnoholic.. I spend a lot of time daily (atleast twice a day, morning and night.. usually for two hours or more at night) looking over each T, feeding, watering, taking pictures, etc. He was fine the day before... so I am really at a loss :(
I waited for a T. gigas for several months - then had to wait after I ordered him, when the shipment was delayed in transit. He survived being in the mail for 7 days (along with Dakotah -P. pulcher-)... *sigh*

That's really awful :( I'm sorry. If I have been reading right, you have a lot of slings at home- I think no matter how great of a job you do, nature will always take it's course sometimes. You seem so dedicated to their care, it's seems unlikely that it could be your fault in anyway.

I'm sorry Teal! It sucks to lose a sling, I lost a Citharischius crawshayi sling a while back for no apparent reason. Like others have said, it happens, and we don't know why.

:( There are a lot of things we don't understand about our pets. I don't think you're a crappy owner as you provide the best that you can for your pets. Even in ideal or good conditions, the best keepers would not be able to control life. :(

I wish your sling all the best. :(

Sometimes, things happen, and really, its nobody's fault.

Don't blame yourself, and don't get discouraged. Ts can do some very miraculous things, so you really should hold out hope, I think.

Thanks everyone..

Conway is officially gone (the smell is undeniable) :(
He never went into a death curl... never moved out of the semi-scared (his legs were halfway pulled up over his eyes) position he was in.

I'm really going to miss him working on his "rainbow" shaped web... he was one of my favourite webbers, and was just becoming bold enough to stay out in the open when I'd open his enclosure :(

Teal, do you have any other T. Gigas?

Newer to the boards so I don't know how many you keep.
