Hello Arachnoboards;

Its been awhile since I posted anything relating to my anting, and thought I'd chip in and share a touch of things going on. I unfortunatly lost my large Campanotus Coloney, to a parasitic mold, while fascinating, it was devestating.

It was here, That I discovered A certian formicarium dealer, now I had been toying with the idea of purchasing a premade ytong formicarium, and Let me tell you, After finding the dealer that I did, I am very very pleased with what my decision.

This was a custom made nest made by tarheelants, of course, with the AVP theme, Unfortunatly I havent ha chance to get pictures with its new inhabitants, A small queen Formica Fusca; Or shiny black ant but perhaps I will get time this weekend to take some. but If I may be so shamless to give a little review.

The ant nest itself is flawless, the Glass pristine, the view spectaculair, it came with a nice viel of red plastic, to obscur the light so the ants feel cosey, And a syringe to water it through its unique watering system (small tubs that you stick the syring into and inject water, it helps prevent over watering yet stll escape proof) a nice stand to stand on, and all the supply I could need.

The only downside I find, is that the tubes are at the top, which at a 90* ish angle, means the tubbing tends to run down on sleep angles unless the outworld is a distance away, the ants dislike this, and did not dont like to travel them. I feel ant exits going out the sides or towards the base would of yeilded better result.

Now for the ant part! since my shameless review is over.

This thread will become my journal, which I will post on hopefully once a weak, to relate to you, the condition of my queen and her nest.

Some back ground info:
This queen was found in the fall last year, over wintered then began production early march, she exploded to twenty workers, and stopped, I feel this may be due to poor husbandry, infact, the worker counts been in decline

I moved her into her new nest roughly a week ago, this new nest is superb, unfortunatly she had no young to be transfered with her, I now think there is about 15 workers or so with her, but they all appear to have fat ghasters; Most likely from my joy of giving them honey.

Thus far, they have not really explored much, more of huddled into a corner, however tonight, I did manage to introduce to them a fresh killed small spiderling, which they seem to have accepted, hopefuly this injection of protien should have the queen start producing again soon. Pics and updates to follow!
