I have been watching a lot of tarantula YouTubers for a while, but I noticed that Exotics Lair specifically doesn’t keep brachypelma. Does anybody know why?

It's just his preferences on what he likes and wants. He doesn't have any Poecilotheria or Brachypelma species anymore, but he used to have them back then.

He's said they're illegal in his country without a permit, but I don't really trust anything he says haha

@RadicalRay07 As you can see from the posts above, Exotics Lair is not liked very much. I see you are 13 years old, so maybe you don't have tarantulas yet. If you are watching Exotics Lair in preparation to getting your first tarantula, please don't. His practices are not recommendable. As with many YouTubers, its just business for him. He uses his tarantulas to get a lot of views, but he does not care for them well. He always runs into 'trouble' when rehousing fast OW tarantulas, but this is all staged to have something exciting to show his viewers. It's a bit like 'learning' survival skills from Bear Grills, while these practices are dangerous and could put people in danger if they try to apply them in a real-life survival situation.

Many people who got their information from YouTube come here for advice when their spiders are in trouble. If you want to gain real useful information, you came to the right place here on Arachnoboards. There is much information in older threads as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Once you become more knowledgeable, you will spot what many YouTubers do wrong, and you will be able to discern what is useful and what is nonsense.

Welcome to Arachnoboards, by the way.

When he or his girlfriend are not feeding mature males to their females, he does manage to breed some of his Ts, and I'm guessing that since Brachypelma and Poecilotheria are both CITES protected, it likely complicates selling the slings. Or at least he thinks it will. I check in on the crud he posts every now and then and I thought I saw he is keeping Tilitocatl species now.

No one here can ever answer what or why a youtuber does the things that they do; or why they make the choices they make. Unless they are the actual youtuber, themselves. ;)

Please take to heart the great advice that @sasker has shared. To add to that, you might find it beneficial to read this thread for beginners: https://arachnoboards.com/threads/tarantula-information-for-beginners-and-more.318718/

Welcome to the hobby! :)
