For slings, it is important to provide cross ventilation with dry substrate and a water dish but what about for adults?

Could they be housed in an 8 x 8 x 12" Exo Terra Nano comfortably with dry substrate and a deep water dish? I do have experience with this species but I usually use tall plastic enclosures with a lot of airholes for adults. I am getting sick of drilling holes.

I only ask this because the Exo Terra Nano does not have any holes on the sides. Never really used glass tanks and was curious on everyone's opinions. Thank you guys!

Exo Terra’s ventilation system works by the “chimney effect” whereby air comes in at the bottom vents and out through the top, creating air circulation. My SAF versi will be moving into an Exo before her next molt (although I’ve chosen the 12x12x18)

Thanks for that info!

Makes me wonder if I should get the 12 x 12 x 18". Amazon running a killer sale on the 8 x 8 x 12" for $50 which is pretty solid, maybe I can use it for another species.

Don’t know if you have LLL in your area, but they are almost always the cheapest I find if you pick it up yourself. I think some here use the 8x8x12. I would do that for a male (less wandering), but a female, I give more space.

I love the Exos. Use mostly the 12 x 12x18s but have an avid in an 8 x 8 x 12 who seems quite happy. But you do NOT want to house slings in either of them. They are too large and your T will get lost, probably never find
the feeder or water and starve. Enclosures need to be size appropriate. Let's put it this way. I'll give you $50 and drop you in Central Park. There's also a guy with a hot dog cart that has food. You have the ability to get
food, and there is food somewhere, but the odds are nigh you will never meet.

Slings and adults have the same requirements

Europeans have been using this style for eons. The standard there is glass “cubes”.
Do the research you’ll see

Thanks for the help guys. I also saw some threads for modification of the screen lid with plexi glass and air holes so I will give that a go too.

This question was for adults, not slings.

I'm one of the people who does them. The ExoTerra Lids are the easiest to swap out IMO.
8x8x12 with Avic
12x12x18 with either a version or a Pokie in it

That looks great, do you have the dimensions of the plexi for the 8 x 8 x 12"?

of course I do but it isn't simple dimensions. There are curved indents (2 on the 8" and 4 on the 12") for where the locks are, along with indents at the front that need to be cut around.
To fit properly you have to cut around those objects on the injection mold.
This is what makes the ZooMeds harder to do, they have tab latches and all kinds of weird shapes that must be addressed.

I see. Just found this style of lid, looks pretty good with some air holes installed already.

8"x8" Exo Terra Replacement Lid – Tarantula Cribs
pretty sure they stole the machining from me. One of my buddies is pretty tight with them and he has some of my lids.
If you look at the photos, you'll see all the indentations.

Pretty cool they hog cut some of it and then glued strips. Extra labor steps, but comes out nice

I prefer my holes near the back, but that is just me.

Why? I always see various geometries.
There's a 3D printer guy, he puts the air grid up front.

There are cheaper vendors out there than what you posted, esp for an 8x8

The intake holes are at the front low, if the exhaust holes are top back the airflow is making a diagonal across the the enclosure. I worry that if there is too much draw straight up, very little moving air
is happening by the T which is usually behind their bark on the back. So I am trying to optimize flow for the T which I believe will move more air overall. Also, having the front hole-less leaves a great area for viewing from above.
I need to use a T Less set up and run some smoke through it so I can visualize what is happening
Those lids cost so much because of all the extra labor steps (Hog Cutting and Glueing) so they are costly by design and of course profit. yes, there re cheaper vendors...I know a guy:cool:

problem being the lids are heavy so shipping tends to be pretty costly. Would have to send as a gift otherwise you got import duties. So $3o in lids and shi[p[per pays $50 in shipping, sounds like a win! :p
