This might be shocking or disturbing to some cultures but some people eat *cooked* silkworm pupae in my region.
These pupae were harvested after they produce silk cocoon and when cooked with various spices it has very salty and unique insect flavor.
It is not really popular food or anything but some people including myself try it as delicacy every now and then.

I also tried eating a live(!) mealworm just out of curiosity and it actually had the unique creamy taste which was not so bad.
Call me crazy but some insects are tasty.

Idk maybe in the future people will eventually be forced to eating insects or synthetic meat (or become vegan) cuz of limited resources...

I tried a dubia roach a few months ago. It was tolerable but nothing that I would get a craving for. I used an adult male (not best choice looking back on it), removed wings and legs and then pan fried it with soy sauce and sugar. I am sure I waaaaay overcooked it to be on safe side. The taste reminded me of maple breakfast sausage but the texture was like a mouth full of popcorn kernal skins.

I would be open to giving it another shot but I would make a few changes. I'd use nymphs that should have a much softer shell, I would cook them less and i would make more than 1 so i could cut them up and put them in a dish rather than just eating it by itself.

I have ate some grasshoppers that I covered in chocolate and peanuts, and also a few bark scorpions that I salt and vinegar fried, it was pretty good actually! 😁

I've only ever eaten cooked insects. I'm not a fan of the fishy flavor that most of them have, but mealworms are great in pasta.

Insects are delicious and multipurpose food-wise(though I admit to not being a huge fan of silkworms). Cricket flour is becoming more popular in the US for baking and I'm pretty excited about that. Crickets (non-flour) are probably one of my favorites. Superworms are pretty good too.

Do you cook or coat the superworms in anything?

I have a huge bulk pack of salt and vinegar seasoned crickets in a cabinet, eat them whilst watching movies:cool:

I’ve always been curious about the silkmoth pupae, will have to try them at one point but I’m unsure how I’d fair with a softer ‘gooey’ texture...

I've found that grasshoppers and mealworms taste good fried but dubia roaches are disgusting. They can be made more tolerable by carefully pulling out the head to remove the digestive tract but they still have a gross aftertaste similar to the smell of the fluid they vomit when threatened.

I ate a raw mealworm once just to try it. The shell I found very tough so I bit off the head and slurped out the innards. As OP mentioned it was kinda creamy. I didn't like it enough to do it again, and any insect I eat in the future will not have that kind of a shell, which I found very annoying. I've wanted to try sago palm weevil larvae for a very long time because I think they look like gnocchi and they're probably fatty enough to taste really good.
