My T room (the size of a walk in close closet big enough to fit a twin mattress inside laying down) always has a stale smell. I wanted to freshing up the smell with a bottle of peppermint oil. Will the oils have a negative effect on the Ts?

I wouldn't personally. Many people use peppermint oil as a natural insect repellent to repel mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. I don't think it will hurt them necessarily, but they may find it stressful. I dunno. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in.

I just did a search on google and it appears people also use peppermint oil to naturally repel spiders as well. So again, I would advise against it.

Umm a plug in hot plate for candles isn't hot enough to cause a fire.

Maybe try an organic candle?
Organic doesn't mean safe for pets. There are plenty of naturally occurring toxins in all sorts of things. "Organic" just means that nobody put any man-made chemicals in it etc.

You could try an open box of baking soda in the room. It'll absorb nasties without putting anything questionable into the air. Also, in a room that size leaving the door open would help a lot. But I don't know whether you have a reason to keep it shut(or even if you shut it at all haha)

You could use that scented carpet cleaner, leave it for 20-30 minutes then hover it up, that way it removes the smell and no toxins are on shelves/near your T's, not sure if it will work but maybe worth a try.
