Does anyone know how far a Beardie might wander? When it is nice out, I keep my 10 - 12 inch beardie in an open plastic tub about 18 inches high. He has never gotten out before, but he has escaped. My family has searched about 50 yards in all directions, there is plenty of insects and water close by. Any thoughts on this?

They can wander pretty far, I might consider getting something to put a heat lamp on at night and try that. Remeber they would probably go for the tarmack (blacktop asphalt) for heat durring the days too. But really, predators would be my concern, Possums, raccoons, dogs, cats. :( Looks like we all had a bad day keepin pets in the enclosures yesterday. good luck!

One of my brother's leopard geckos escaped in the house about 2 weeks back. My bro was on holiday and my mum was feeding him and left the enclosure slightly open. When I found the tank empty on my feeder run, I realised he was gone and so I looked for him everywhere. No luck. Crafty little guy. I tried searching at night, still no luck. I assume that the cat got him... maybe. Who knows... a shame. But I guess it shows how hard they can be to find in a house, let alone outside.

Beardies can run pretty fast, and they can swim, so he is agile and can quickly get around. Plus if he hisses combined with his spines, that may deter cats, but the real problem is cars or toxic plants.

Put out vegetables and fruit in a large dish, make sure it's out 24 hours a day, change it twice a day if you must, he may smell it and come to eat.

Keep a heat lamp or black light on at night, he will possibly be attracted to it. Also tell your neighbors you lost him, or even put up "lost pet" signs, a beardie is easy to recognize by the public, i'm sure someone somewhere will run into him, put up signs otherwise someone will keep him.

He will bask alot, so you may spot him then.

Good luck hope you find him, dont give up hope.

If you get him back he will need a vet visit, no telling what he could pick up from the outside, or eat.

Was driving home yesterday and saw someone posting notices on poles and asked what was lost, actually she said she found and animal. Turned out to be Shrek, my beardie. He had travelled about 300 yards and was picked up by a caring person and returned to us unharmed.

Boy, that's a good ending to the story!

You ought to send something to the person that rescued your lizard. Just a small token of appreciation. Maybe a small potted houseplant or something like that.

The person who took care of him was interested in a beardie. We are going to the Reptile Swap in DuPage on Sunday and will pick up a juvenile for her as thanks. She is a big animal person herself.
