I went to my local reptile store just recently and they had just received a shipment from Eqypt. They had solfugids and they also had these other spiders they called camel spiders. I thought solfugids were commonly called camel spiders. Anywho these things look like a big (white) true spider like huntsmans, wolfs and wandering spiders. Does anyone know what these are? They also told me they were possibly dangerous, but I'm sure they really did not know what they were talking about....I would buy one, but not if it's gonna do some damage if I make a mistake.

There is an African spider that has been dubbed the “Dancing White Lady” spider. It is a desert Sparrasid of the genus ‘Leucorchestris'.

There is also a related genus of “wheel Spiders” (Carparachne). There is a picture of what I believe to be one in this thread;

I have never heard the term Camel spider used for a true spider before, so I don’t know if either of these is your spider but my guess is that it would at least be related.

If it is, indeed, a Sparrasid then I doubt that it would be too dangerous but don't quote me on that one.

Yeah it's for sure the one that Gordon is talking about. So is it worth buying? My rules are I don't buy it if it can screw me up.

Yeah I saw them, it's at Reptile Amazone store on Notre Dame street in Montreal. The solifugids are already adult sisze.

As for the other white spiders, I wonder how big they become!!!

Well I would assume the people who catch the spiders are looking for the biggest ones they can find so they can sell them easily. So it's a good bet they're at their max and may not live long, but I still want one going along with my rule of nothing dangerous at home. Merfolk do you go on any other Quebec forums and do you know about the MHA?
