well my 5 year old found a little frog here in the apt complex. its a small olive colored frog with darker olive markingd and a dark stripe from nose across the eye. i googled cali frogs and i'm kinda certain its a redleg frog. called gaiser pets to talk to the reptile guy there (i know don't listen to petshops, but this guy personally has reptiles). got him inn a small tank right now (a double betta tank), got some gravel on the bottom, ecco eart on top and one side, then water on the other so he won't dry out.
i didn't really want a frog, but i can't just toss him out either, the kids here would squash him.
any tips of how to care for him?
got told he eats crix, to feed him 2-3 times a week (1-2 times in winter, 3 times in summer), to give him a chance to climb and not to let him dry out.

anything else?

It sounds like you're doing it right. You might want to find some way to filter the water so it doesn't start to smell. Also be sure he is able to climb out of the water onto the dry part so he doesn't drown.

well i put the gravel on the bottom, then the ecco earth on top and about 3/4 of the tank is earth,, about almost half way up, then the other side is the water. i can change the water and the setup, i just needed to put him someplace right now. didn't want my son to drag him all over he place or the kids in the apt to get ahold of him.

Are you dechlorinating/otherwise treating the water? Water right out of your tap will probably kill an amphibian.

Might want to go to the pet store (unless you have them already) and buy calcium powder and vitamin powder. Dust the crix once a week with each. This way the frog receives, well, calcium and vitamins.

If it really is a red legged frog, you should release it. It is a protected species and is listed as threatened.
