I was reading academic research about tarantulas, and an article about B vagans said the species was endangered an on the CITES list (Appendix II, to be exact). Anyone have a quick link to where to find the complete list? I am in the middle of class, so I dont have time to do a full investigation myself.

Aphonopelma albiceps shall to be excluded from the listing as it is already a species in Brachypelma genus.
Aphonopelma pallidum is also rather dubious species.
So as still Poecilotheria spp are not accepted only Brachypelma spp is in the list. But in fact there're lot of other species which should be considering close to extinction due to a habitat loss mostly.

Yep, B. vagans is exotic to FL and is flourishing. As for vegans, they live all over the country. If you see a person that you suspect is a vegan, offer them a steak and see what happens.

Here is another direct quote from the CITES website that I thought might be worth mentioning...

"The species covered by CITES are listed in three Appendices, according to the degree of protection they need...Appendix II includes species not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival."

So there you have it. All the listing means is that the international trade of B. vagans is subject to certain controls.

mking, good note!
But "not necessarily threatened with extinction" means also "may be threatened with extinction", isn't it?
More over we know at least one species which is on te adge of extinction but it's not covered with CITES' any appendixes.

As for vagans-vegans (it's just a matter of do You have spelling autocorrection prog on Your comp or not) in Florida - do You study that personally (I guess You base this info on the paper published long ago, see - http://tarantulas.tropica.ru/en/evolution/Theraphosinae/Brachypelma)? As far as I know the population was lost... and one man on this board make a perfect money on selling the mentioned speciemens.
And as far as the pictures in Brachypelma pic thread shows those vagans id'ed by Mr. West thast time as mentioned in article, were not really B. vagans, but other Brachypelma species as we have suppose nowadays after some study on the genus.

I can see that happening with the P. imperator. They are so popular in the pet trade that it's easy to see over-collection of the species. That and they are simply delightful with cheese and crackers. {D

I have personally seen and collected the B. vagans from Florida. I collected 8 of them and have 2 in my care.

This was back in 2002. I have been back once in 2005 and found nothing. It's possible there was a winter that was a little too cold and they didn't survive, but I don't personally know for sure. I would love to go back and check though.

I was just kidding around with the vegan comment. Anyway, I think this is an interesting thread. Florida really is a hotbed for exotics isn't it? Tegus, monitors, boas, pythons, and tarantulas too. I've even heard rumors about cobras.

Have any Avic species become established there as well?

To been more correctly, You collect the species which was that time ID'ed by WEst as B. vagans and now, looking the fotos of the speciemns from the place - not, they are not identifiable as B. vagans due to a major of characters...
Can You post a pic of You floridan "B. vagans"?

The picture itself was taken over the last 12 months. I don't think I have any pictures more recent other than the breeding pics I believe are also posted on my picture thread.
