Do they need big, spacious enclosures for a full life? Nah. Is it worth giving them more space when you can? You bet.
This geniculata tried out her burrow when it was time to produce her eggsac.
If she didn’t have another option, she’d probably have done it right there, and it’d be fine. But with the extra space, she got to scope out another spot and ended up building this massive cocoon thing on the other side of the enclosure.
As a hobbyist, I got the privilege of watching all that behavior unfold.
My advice? Whenever you can, give ‘em more space. It’s never too much.
I know it’s not the best picture, but there’s a big, white baseball size eggsac totally out of focus in here:
