Hey guys,

On Thursday I'm headed to an LPS selling a nice selection of T slings for very reasonable prices.

First question: I'm going to pick up an Avicularia sling and they said they were selling some A. Avics for 4.99 and versicolors for 24.99. I want a versicolor and I was planning on getting a plastic display box from michales or something. Anybody ever use some pvc pipe in an enclosure? Seems like it would be good for anchoring web and also as a neat little hide.

Second: they also have slings they are calling "Red phase chilean rose." When I looked this up what I found didn't specify any difference between g. Rosea and "red phase" g. Rosea. Any comments on that? They're only 4.99 and I want another g. Rosea so I was going to snag one either way.

Third: I was thinking about trying coco husk substrate this time because it's cheap and I've read good things. Anyone ever use it for an H. Lividum? I was going to rehouse him while I'm doing the slings. He needs less surface area and more depth of substrate because he's a cave monster.

I will be posting pics and vid of enclosures, rehousing, and attempting to feed the lividum.
Thanks!

Alright. :)

First answer: I've tried PVC pipe once and my pokie didn't seem to like it, but I've seen it done before with avics and pokies; they seemed to be fine with them and use them. I do have a large PVC elbow in with one of my B. vagans, and she uses it as the entrance to her burrow; she dug the 'strate out underneath it.

Second answer: If you're gonna get one either way, why ask? ;) I'd get one, but I wouldn't get your hope up for it being RCF.

Third answer: Yes, coco husk works fine for my lividum. :)

Please forgive my ignorance I'm still decently new to this but what do you mean by RCF? I just want to know because this hobby is so interesting and addictive I love it more the more I learn.

And the picture on the website looked really beautiful for the so called "red phase."

Might as well know exactly what I have too.

Than ks for the advice!

RCF = Red color form, although I tend to call them "red color phase" when I say it out loud.

Okie dokie..

1. - I wouldn't pay that much for a versicolor if my life depended on it! In the FS section on here, there is someone with them for $10.. add in priority shipping (another 6-10$) and you're still out less than getting one from the pet store. BUT - that's only now that I know the hobby. I WAY overpaid for my first OBT, and I would do it all over again if I had the chance because that's my favourite T.
But, to answer your question - I have a PVC elbow in that same OBTs enclosure and he took right to it.

2. - RCF (Red colour form, is what it stands for... but they are also called red colour phase) G. rosea ARE really pretty, if that is actually what they are. Do the slings look red, or are they grey? Or, are they still 2i pink?

3. - I don't have an H. lividum, and I have never used coco husk lol

I thought it looked funky. Probably n ot even ttaken at the store. I'll grab a few and see what you think of them after I have actual pictures.

Could turn out to be cool if I manage to come away with a bad ass spider they didn't know they had at 5 bucks a pop.

If you do a search, Tommy (Redneck) has pictures posted up of his G. rosea slings... some of which are red, and some of which are normal.

There is an obvious difference in the slings... but, for $5 I would get a few anyways just to see what they grow up into

I have my Cobalt on a coco husk, compressed moss blend. It looks good and holds together well in tunnels. I developed a spinning cage so I can always see where she is.

Awesome. How well does it hold moisture and how often do you mist?
