I ordered an Emperor Scorpion a few days ago and received him today. I've heard several stories of people ordering Emperor Scorpions and recieving Asian Forest Scorpions. I'm wondering if he's actually an Emperor. I've attached some pics of him.

Hard to tell with those pictures but it may be an Asian forest. Can you take one that's not through the acrylic? <edit>
Side note- that substrate is way too dry for either species

<edit>. thanks, I'll go ahead and mist it some more. Should I take him out when I mist it or can he stay in there while I mist it?

He can stay in when you mist, but with substrate that dry I would just pour water directly into it, it'll do a lot more good than the misting right now, they really like damp substrate. I'm pretty sure that's an Asian forest, but it would be good for others to chime in, which I'm sure they will

Hard to tell, telson looks maroon but IIRC one of the Heterometrus also has a reddish telson. The best way to tell is to get a good pic of the pincers. Big and bumpy = emperor.

Do a search on the forums for Heterometrus and Pandinus identification. There's a lot of threads on this topic, a few really good ones.

That’s Asian. It’s pinchers should be bulkier, more granular, and under light will have a red coloration to them.

Hmmmmm emperor claws are like boxing gloves .... A. Forest are like surf boards kinda long n slider .. Depending on the sex thicker claws. Your scorpion claws seems 2 look like mines which is a asian forest.

Yea it looks to be a Asian forest you can tell by the claws asians have more smooth claws while emperors have hairy claws and you can also tell the difference from the color of the stinger

its an asian forest scorpion but its beautiful!. Looks big and healthy and yes, it does need to have damp substrate. Not sopping wet like a swamp, just damp. Oh, and enough room to burrow, 4-5 inches of substrate. They love to burrow. They also love a water dish they can soak their whole body in. That will help keep humidity levels up.

pouring water is for sure the best bet. the substrate should be wet, but not drip excess water if you were to squeeze it. I agree that this looks asf

As others have said, this is for sure an Asian forest scorp. I would agree with dry desert on Heterometrus spinifer, based on the reddish telson, granulation patterns and headshape. Can’t guarantee it’s spinifer based on these pictures, but definitely a Heterometrus sp.

And yeah, just pour in some water.

It's a Heterometrus spinifer, indeed. Honestly, they are a lot less common than P. imperator is right now and may be worth good money sooner than later. A smaller import of them cam in a couple years ago, another may have made its way in.

Where did you purchase it?
